Rising to fame as the lead singer Diana Ross and the Supremes, Diana Ross embarked on a solo career in 1970. The Supremes were Motown's most successful act of the 1960s, with twelve number one US singles. 

Throughout the 70s Ross was managed by music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein, who was also her husband from 1971 to 1977. He managed many other artists, including Meat Loaf and Status Quo.
